ABOUT

Evan Glass

for Montgomery County Executive

Raised by a single mother in New York, Evan Glass moved to the D.C. region to attend American University, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in journalism and political science. He immediately moved to Montgomery County after graduating and has called this community home ever since.

Evan was first elected in 2018, making history as the first openly gay man to serve on the Montgomery County Council. He is currently in his second term as an At-Large member.

His extensive legislative accomplishments include passage of the Montgomery County Pay Equity Act, the Housing Justice Act, the Make Office Vacancy Extinct Act, the LGBTQ+ Bill of Rights, the Safe Streets Act, the Uplifting Victims and Immigrant Safety Act, and the Suicide Awareness and Firearm Education Act.

As an environmental and social justice leader, he successfully led the initiative to make public buses free for all children under the age of 18, expanded food composting for residents and restaurants, and amended the county charter to add two additional council districts.

Prior to joining the Council, Evan spent 12 years as a CNN journalist, where he covered the U.S. Congress, presidential campaigns and national politics. He also served as a contractor for the Department of Veterans Affairs and the executive director of Gandhi Brigade Youth Media, an innovative after school youth program dedicated to empowering immigrant and low-income students.

Evan lives in Silver Spring with his husband, Jason, and their two rescue beagles Daisy and Poppy.
